Finished Photoshop Play!

Flapper?  Ingenue?  What is the word you'd use to describe this piece? It evolved from the design process described in my last post and was finished this morning after doing both a dark fur/background version and this one.  They differed in that the darker version drew the eye to the background rather than the drawing.  This one doesn't. What I like about this piece is how the the wavy hair comes through by the use of limited echo lines and how the background pattern of blue symmetrical flowers echo the blue [pair of] earrings. Do you have a guess about how may photos were used in this digital drawing? This post also linked to  http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com .

Art Lesson of the Day!

I drew three flapper images tonight and didn't like any of them.  Above are scans of two of those drawings.       So, I cut them all in thirds horizontally and then played with mixing and matching them to see if anything might work. A part of one of them did work.  So using that one, I taped some blank paper to the section that wasn't quite right and started re-drawing it.  This is what emerged, and I think this one will work as my flapper image. Lesson:  Creative play can help resolve problems!

A New Photoshop Play Effort!

What adjective would you use to describe this lady in the image? This post also linked to  http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com .

Some Weekend Photoshop Play!

It has been a while since I worked on a digital drawing piece and it was a nice break to be able to get back to the creative adventure! This post also linked to  http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com .

Quilt Patterns are everywhere!

What a neat find behind a fenced off location in Oakland, CA...such energetic and vibrant movement in this painted exterior wall/door.

FabMo Fun!

Today was my first visit to FabMo (by appointment) for some wonderful designer fabric and trim finds.  All fabrics are intended to be repurposed into wonderful items by interested artists...only a donation is requested. Appointments at this Mountain View venue are for 45 minutes so that everyone gets a turn during the limited hours per month when the facility is open. Here are some neat finds from today's visit!

Remembering Robert Genn

(Robert Genn Picnic Point to Philip Glass Lake in the Woods) Canadian artist, Robert Genn, recently passed away.  To the community of artists he faithfully sent regular newsletters to, it was a sad day when his passing was announced.   Sara, his daughter, will be continuing the work he began...in supporting the life of the artful online community.   What I'm reminded of today in creating this post...is gratitude.  So, thank you Robert for the welcoming artist community you created and your years of care and nurturing of it!  Also, thank you Robert for your works, for sharing techniques and personal stories, and for the family member you shared in raising who will continue your work in her unique way!

Book Review

(Image courtesy of Amazon.com) Finished this book yesterday...easy reading.  It makes some good points (and reminders) including: *"Find your voice, shout it from the rooftops, and keep doing it until the people that are looking for you find you" (Dan Harmon quote); *Share your process (take people behind the scenes of what you produce);  *Share something small every day (and be choosy about what that is); *Share you influences (books you read, music you listen to, movies you see, art you look at, what you collect, who you follow on line, etc.) -- it clues people in to who you are and what you do. *Properly attribute when you post/share anything! *Teach what you know; *Share your trade secrets; *"Part of the act of creating is in discovering your own kind.  They are everywhere.  But don't look for them in the wrong places" (Henry Miller quote); *Listen; and, *Always be a learner.
