My First - A Custom-designed Scarf from Bags of Love/Contrado

A SUCCESSFUL FIRST!  This custom-designed and digitally-printed scarf arrived today.  I uploaded my design and ordered it December 3rd and received it today, December 7th.  I'm very impressed with the company's customer service and the quality of the product, and I'm quite satisfied with the scarf (printed on Silk Sensation from Bags of Love). I'm still interested in having the design printed on a fabric so it is viewable on both sides.  That may mean having it printed on a much lighter fabric (e.g. Poly Chiffon or Silk Georgette).  If you have a fabric suggestion and/or vendor to look into, please leave a comment.

Photoshop Elements 3 Class (PSE3) is Ending

My fellow classmates and I are in the final project phase of the PSE3 class led by instructors Deb Cashatt and Kris Sazaki, The Pixeladies.  It has been a terrific course! For the final project, I've designed a repeating pattern (below) to print as a long scarf.  I'm not sure yet whether to make the scarf myself or have it printed and finished by a vendor.  I'm in the process of obtaining fabric samples, color charts, and size and cost information from vendors that will help me decide what company to order from. This will affect whether it will involve full-service or fabric printing only.      I'm very pleased with this design plus amazed with the capability of Adobe Photoshop Elements 2023.  I like the program so much better than the cloud version of Photoshop. I haven't mentioned picture editing, but we've done some of that in PSE3 though it isn't a focus of the course because most of the participants are quilters and visual artists.   If you w...

Review - Cafe Press Puzzle

This is a review of a recently-ordered, custom puzzle printed with one of my images.  The source image is on the left; puzzle product on the right. Overall, the quality of the puzzle is excellent!  I love the semi-gloss (rather than matte) finish, and the pieces fit easily together. The only thing is the slight white at the top.  The image was slightly tilted before printimg.  Other than that, I'm impressed.

Abstracting a Design from a Photo

My two snails photo from a recent trip is the basis of a design idea that I've been playing with today. The first part was drawing what the most important shapes in the photo were (in a general way). Next, I scanned the drawing and saved it as a a B/W jpg . I printed out some blocks of the scanned image and played with their layout. Then I opened the black and white image in Photoshop and gave it color. Some colored blocks were printed, and the layout was played with again. This could make an interesting background for a future art quilt, or depending on the arrangement...might make a nice border for a piece.
