Week 13 - Let's Face It lesson with Toni Burt

The finished project in the Pic-Collage above was started weeks ago when I chose the source inspiration photo and then collaged paper in the rough shapes of the photo image to watercolor paper.

Most of the underlying paper used in the collage were scrapbook paper remnants except for the face which was maroon tissue paper. The tissue paper was very delicate and a bit challenging to work with, and I played with layering it to create shadow areas.

The instructor's lesson plan was for students to use pastels to create a face with impressions of its features as well as light and shadow. I don't have pastels, so I used acrylic paint to complete the face staying with the maroon color scheme. This proved challenging to do, and I found myself color-mixing and blending most of the time as I painted over all the tissue paper.

The background (green/blue area) is made of collaged scrapbook paper remnants that have been covered with gelatos, the patterns traced in black pen, and then sealed with Gel Medium.

Looking at this photo, the ear looks better than I normally paint ears...yay! While this isn't my best work, I learned that the Marvy (Wearable Art) Fabric Marker is a great pen to use over gelatos and that you really need to seal gelatos! TIP...Black Sharpies, Pen-touch, Bic Mark-it, and Identi-Pen don't work over gelatos.

Movie Review: Four Hands, Two Sonatas

Netflix has been advertising this limited Korean series recently added to the site's line-up. The title peaked my interest. So, I started watching it with no expectation other than knowing it was about two pianists. I really liked how this Korean production was dubbed in English. The English speakers (voice sound/tone/character) were terrifically cast as well as the timing of the spoken words' consistency with the mouthing of the Korean actors on-screen dialogue. This series' storyline has a number of facets: bullying, wealth vs poverty and access to arts training, musicianship, stage fright, competition, friendship, rivalry, sabotage, lack of confidence, revenge, etc. The music is primarily classical and is lovely. Four Hands, Two Sonatas is an off-beat show. That said, I really enjoyed it (and the piano playing is terrific too)! As a prior musician--there are many topics it brought up that I understand. New Project in Progress

I'm working on a new project with multiple layers and shapes of different colored organzas. It is an interpretation of lighting on an ice rink...from a show I recently saw. There is a lot more stitching to do, but I like how its coming along. I'm learning organzas are not easy to work with especially when you layer them and have overlaid edges.
