2026 Momentum - a course led by Louise Fletcher

After taking Find Your Joy 2025, an online course from Louise Fletcher (a British artist), I signed up for her Momentum course that started in January 2026.

It has been a fascinating exploration so far doing more in-depth work focusing on a specific subject area.  My original focus has morphed since January, and the work is changing daily.  One of the techniques I'm working with is mirror or backwards writing -- inspired by Leonardo da Vinci.  Separately, I've noticed my recent work has flowing and curving lines that are uncharacteristic of pieces done in the past.  There are hints of flowing line work, though, in the fractured/neurographic-like faces I drew a few years ago.

The piece below was inspired by a painting (no artist signature unfortunately).  In my version, I love how the gown's skirt appears to sway with the flowing line-work, and how the curved banisters and her arm positions work to invite the viewer to imagine she is stepping gracefully up the stairs.  I also love the light globe part of the light standards.

This piece was done using a limited palette of five colors:  Iridescent Violet Blue, Isoindolinone Yellow, Benzimidazolone Yellow Medium, Titanium White, and Mars Black. Yes, all the colors in the piece were created using these colors alone or mixed.  What was amazing was creating a believable skin tone from a mix of Violet Blue, I. Yellow, and White.

Highjacked Blog Photo

My profile photo was highjacked ! For those of you who are blogging, be wary. There are some unscrupulous folks out there who may be using or about to use a photo(s) you've uploaded to an online photo-hosting site. At the time I created a blog, having a URL for a photo uploaded online was the only way to insert a photo in your profile or to create a custom header. There had been no problems for a long while. This morning, however, I did a Google image search for my name and found my photo linked to a totally different blog than my own! It is possible I didn't mark my file with the online photo-hosting site as private, but I didn't expect this to happen. I don't know whether marking it private would have actually averted the situation, but I'm not waiting to find out. I eliminated my membership to that online photo-hosting service today and caution anyone to be careful with uploading images to the internet . If you read the terms of agreement at many sites, you'...

Life Book 15 - Week 36 Project Completed (or nearly completed)

This project went in an entirely different direction than the Life Book 2015 lesson.  That's ok because we're also working on accepting those times when we move in our own direction using the lesson purely as a launching point. This piece involved experimenting with collage on a substrate (muslin covered with joint compound), followed with paint, more collage, and then the felt, fabric and beaded plant. This piece was created through a class offered by Tamara Laporte from Willing Arts Ltd. For more information, visit this link:  www.willowing.org .

New Project in Progress

I'm working on a new project with multiple layers and shapes of different colored organzas.  It is an interpretation of lighting on an ice rink...from a show I recently saw.  There is a lot more stitching to do, but I like how its coming along.  I'm learning organzas are not easy to work with especially when you layer them and have overlaid edges.  The fabric also tends to ravel easily.
