Digital Image Journal Quilt

This is one of my digital images printed on my preferred fabric (see earlier post) and quilted.  The arms and fingers are heavily stitched because the fabric wasn't taut enough without it and this aided in shrinking the area a bit so it feels firm -- not 'mushy'. Its interesting to see a digital creation in fabric form.  The medium has an effect on the piece.  I'm still figuring out what I think about that, but I observe that it is different. Looking at the piece, I'm thinking I could have quite a show, if I did a quilt version of each one of the digital images I've done over the last year! Prints on Fabric

I've printed one of my digital images on two different fabrics for printers.  The print on the left is on 100% Cotton Poplin by Color Textiles Inc.  The print on the right is on Premium Cotton Satin Inkjet Fabric Sheets by EQ Printables. Each print was left to dry overnight and it was probably 24 hours before I washed them.  The printing on the Color Textiles wasn't as vivid as the EQ Printables fabric.  Also, after washing, there was a slight noticeable muddying of the color on the Color Textiles fabric unlike the EQ Printables fabric.  I'm more satisfied with the latter, even though I'm going to continue experimenting. Has anyone had similar or different experiences?  If you'd care to share your knowledge, please consider making a comment!

New Photoshop Play!

Since yesterday, I reworked a couple things from the original version (original is on the bottom).  See the differences?  Overall, does the image look better?

Wacom Tablet Tip

If using the pen/brush tool in Photoshop to write, my Bamboo Fun doesn't allow the tablet's reorientation so that I can write at my normal slant (which happens to be vertical (toward me)).  What I've come up with is an idea for mitigating that...to orient the page in Photoshop 90 degrees clockwise, and when I'm done ~~ moving it back (or 90 degrees counter-clockwise). For those of you with a less prominent slant when you write, how do you handle this in any writing you do via a writing tablet?

Doodling today...didn't work

I've been working on this for a few hours and am going to leave it be for now.  I was trying to figure out how to do a reverse erase in Photoshop (to make some outlines of the top layer solid), but I got an error message that there was no history layer in order to do it.  So, this hasn't turned out the way I wanted it to.

New Photoshop Play!

I used one altered photograph for the background in this piece!  This post also linked to  http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com ..

Photo Collage with Digital Manipulation

I didn't set out to come up with this image.  What I did was chose three of my own photos, cropped them, applied filters and then combined them.  In addition, I used some of the other photo-editing tools like color dodge, etc.  I'm liking this!

Another new weekend digital art piece!

I've reworked this piece today.  I wasn't completely satisfied with the original version.  So, this one has edits to the right eye, lips, background and handkerchief in the left hand.  Thoughts? This post also linked to  http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com ..

Newest Digital Art Work!

This is titled "Dreaming", and it uses elements of seven altered photographs.  Can you figure out where the photographic elements are? This post also linked to  http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com ..

Introducing 'Boysenberry Fog'!

I finished this piece tonight which is my response to the August 2013 Fast Friday (FF) Challenge (a bit overdue, yes).  FF Challenge #84 was to create a piece with circles and arcs, and to aim for a pictorial or symbolic quilt rather than one with a repetitive pattern.  Well, I think this fits the bill just perfectly!   What do you think?

Excellent article!

I just read a blog post about practical tips for productive living...7 ways to stop fearing what everyone else thinks of you.   It is an excellent read, and I highly recommend it! The focus of the article is ~~ if you're constantly seeking approval from others you're not living your own individual and unique life, and it gives pointers on how to change that. Find out more in this great article by checking out the link below! http://www.marcandangel.com/2013/10/06/7-ways-to-stop-fearing-what-everyone-thinks-of-you/

Charles M. Schulz Museum - Cartooning Fun!

Remember Charlie Brown, Lucy and the gang?  You can find them all at the Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, California.   As part of the museum, there is an art room for kids of all ages.  This cartoon took 5 minutes to do freehand and is based on the image in the book in the background.  What is amazing is how simple lines and shapes can be so evocative.

Piece in Progress - Now Complete!

It has been some time since I've produced fabric art, and I think I got a bit intimated about doing the work and that's why I procrastinated in finishing it. This is my response to Challenge #82 from my Fast Friday group.  It was to choose an 'Old West' painter and create a piece based on abstracting the inspiration image.  My inspiration image is 'Indian Maiden at Stockade' by Charles Marion Russell done in 1892 (see first image below). I took a more simplistic cubist approach to abstract the elements of the maiden.  A photo of the abstraction and template cut-outs is also shown below.  I like how the piece came out even though it is more minimal than I thought it would be.  All comments are welcome! Inspiration from intrigue?

I'm quite intrigued by the texture in this photo of a palm tree base. How could this be interpreted in fabric?  What kind of techniques might work well in interpreting it?

The 'Tween' Art Quilting Zone

This year's vacation was filled with amazing sights and sources of creative ideas.  But have I been inspired with imagery I want to make, or with the desire to work? Not in fabric yet, as you can tell from the digital work I've been doing. I appear to be 'on a break' between one creative art quilting phase and another.  It is hard to be patient sometimes, and I imagine it would be especially if one isn't producing any creative work through other methods.  At least I'm working on projects in the digital environment, even though it is not a mode where I have considered my strength and passion to lie. Do these kinds of interludes happen to you?  If so, what do you do in the 'tween' zone?
